very nice local restaurant, friendly to foreigners
I think this place is a small chain. English menu is available. The breakfast set was wonderful. I had Saury and picked it down to bones. I never understood how "fatty and oily" could be a positive way to discribe food as I was always repulsed by pork belly. But this grilled/broiled fish... I can't put into words how good it was. And for only ~600 Y, go give it a taste.
Delicious food with reasonable price . I had been there 4 times during my 10 days trip in tokyo
Great fish at very good price.... Highly recommended
They have English/Chinese menu. Several kinds of grilled fish to choose from, really delicious. A set comes with rice and miso soup and all are less than 1,000 yen, which is a great value. Good service too.
Delicious traditionally cooked Japanese food. Packed full at lunch time, with friendly staff
Traditional, delicious, Fish. This is the spot if you’ve been walking up and down the strip trying to decide!
Great food for an affordable price!
Really great place for a quick grab
Great place for a warm fish breakfast. Perfectly seasoned fish with a healthy helping of miso soup. Great prices as well!
Nice grilled fish in a small setting. Seems like a favourite with locals but easy enough for foreigners to order here. Be sure whether you want half or full fish and the prices displayed are for half portion.
Shinpachi is a must do when my husband and I go to Tokyo. We love the simplicity of the meal. There are many options of fish and every thing is extremely reasonably priced. There is usually a line up but t moved fast.
Shinpachi Shokudo is a great place to go if you want a decent traditional japanese breakfast. You order a charcoal grilled fish of your personal preference and combine with rice and soup and pickles. Or, if you're super good, mix in natto. This is the blue collar casual diner, typically with himono (dried then grilled fish), in teishoku (in a set). Simple, tasty, cheap.
Great food! Soup base is so good!
Really tasty fish with lots of flavour and fat. Don't think I've enjoyed fish like that in a while. A little heavy handed with the salt however but the rice and daikon cut it.
Excellent breakfast. Fish was perfectly cooked. This place was busy as the food is so tasty.
Great lunch spot for grilled fish set meals. Highly recommend it if you are exploring the area.
The food is excellent and cheap
Nice food with reasonable price.
We came here for a filling Japanese breakfast and that's exactly what we got! For under 700 yen each, we got a breakfast set that included a meat, miso soup, and small sides. Super delicious!
This place has really good Japanese breakfast and I really enjoyed coming here. I can see why people would think the waitress is rude, but I think she is just really busy serving everyone. The salted fish is really good even for people that aren't so much into fish. Again, loved this place
We really loved this place for a traditional Japanese breakfast. Very reasonably priced (approx 800 yen). The miso seasoned Makerel was my fav. Highly recommended.
Charming ambience, with decently-priced local fare. An english menu is provided with visual aids. This is a good place for breakfast but do come before 9am as it may get crowded after that. Each meal costs about 800 yen. Be prepared to wait as the chefs need time to grill your meat for you on the spot. This takes about 15-25 minutes. The wait is rewarding as the fish is very well-prepared. Overall this is an experience not to be missed if you are staying in the vicinity. The meeting between locals and tourist at this eatery is an interesting experience.
Fish was good the seating is all counter seating. This is a place just to eat where seats are tightly spaced together for customers to eat. Could get a bit busy but food is fast and fish are good portions here
Ate here for brunch twice in a row! Really good quality fish, rice, soup, and pickles set; all for a good price. I recommend the salted mackerel - soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Looks like they had a cheap deal for beer with the set too !
Stunning breakfast. Quiet, fast and very clean. Fish tasted amazing. Very good price. Will go back!
For the taste/quality of the fish and the price you pay for it? 5 stars
One of the best place to have breakfast in shinjuku
Grilled fish, rice, and miso soup. Breakfast doesn't get much more traditional - or tasty - than this. Who needs bread and jam in the morning? Coffee can be found at the convenience store nearby.
A place full of surprises. Didn't expect this kind of taste. Delicious and reasonable prices
Delicious with a very decent price
Delicious, cheap set meals. Quality has dropped a little since I last tried it a year ago, but still good. There’s an English menu, and most staff knows Chinese.
Food is good and fairly cheap . However , seems the staff is not friendly towards foreigner , so better stay out of it in rush hour .
This one ticked all the boxes for us. Authentic, delicious, healthy breakfast! Many different grilled fish species with a delicious miso and rice. Menu in English available and staff certainly very helpful to explain in English. Mostly locals, but a couple of foreigners eat here too.
Upstairs with private booths. Food good, fresh and flavoursome. Disappointed there was a cover charge per person.English menu assists.Salmon and rice tasty and generous.
The best way to start the day is some grilled fish at this assuming diner. Affordable and healthy too
This has got to be one of the best breakfast spots in Shinjuku. I love this place so much that I had it two times in a week. In summary: if you’re looking for filling breakfast with rice and fish/meat, come here. I had salmon for first time and second visit I had red rockfish. Both times I enjoyed myself so much. There’s only about 15-20 seats and they get filled very fast. However people don’t sit long so the turnover rate is very fast!Kids? Yes, my 3 year old son loves this place. Rice and fish with some soup is the perfect combo. Infants? No, no baby chair but I brought my own sir add-on. I’ll visit again when I visit Tokyo again, with no doubts!!!
Nice teishoku. The fish was fresh.
Came back in Sept 2018. Everything is still as I remembered it. Consistently good. Oishi!March 2018: This is my favorite breakfast restaurant in Shinjuku. It’s authentic Japanese cooking and reasonable prices below 800 yen for a set meal. You get your choice of mostly fish, with chicken pork and beef options. All proteins are grilled with a smokey flavor and served with rice, grated daikon and soy sauce, miso soup and pickled vegetables. Green tea is served for free. It’s hard to go wrong here with any order. I usually get the salted fatty mackerel or the fatty horse mackerel because Japanese mackerel is best in Japan, of course. I usually try to eat here more than once when I visit Tokyo. This is my go to for breakfast.
Great place for fish. I had the fatty mackerel and it was simply the best I've ever had. The rest of the food was also great quality, natto was nice and soft with a coffee aftertaste. Only slightly weird thing was that the staff was all speaking Chinese amongst each other, but yeah, did not impact my lovely mackerel.
Very nice fish set, traditional Japanese style breakfast. Price is very reasonable.
Surprisingly good. Actually when I stand at their main door, i don't really expect this will be good. Maybe just average. But somehow their food amazed me. Their main selling is fish. Variety kind of grill fish. Taste juicy and tender. Staff is friendly and can speak little bit of English. Price wise is cheap. Far better than you eat McDonald's.
Great little place. Authentic Japanese food. We went there for breakfast-had the miso salmon and saki mackerel (both comes with rise and soup). Even had a beer for breakky like the locals did!!
Great fish grill japanese set. Affordable price and make sure you don't go too late at night or the stock run out. Five stars would has been given is the hygiene can be improve.
Delicious food and very cheaps
Fresh fish , very good food here , only problem is the waitress , very rude towards foreigners .
A nice small Japanese restaurant that is opened really early in the morning for those who fancy a traditional Japanese meal for breakfast. I tried the miso salmon set which comes with a bowl of rice, some pickled vegetables and a bowl of miso soup. It could be quite filling but the flavor of the fish was really good. I did enjoy my breakfast there and the price was affordable. I recalled that the price of this full set would be around 950 yen.
Amazing fish dishes at a great price. We were verrrrrrrry happy with this delicious meal
They recommended the Reef fish. It was best fish I’ve had in a long time. Like fresh Coral Trout. Lovely breakfast. Served with Miso soup, rice and white radish.
We ate here a couple times during our stay as they are open pretty much all day and had gluten free options for the hubs (just order the salted fish and sans miso) English menu available.
